Senior Theatre Workshop

For youth ages 13-17

July 9 – 20th, 2018

Performance on July 20th

Britannia United Church

$400 for two weeks

This two-week program is built on a variety of workshops, instructed by some of the best performers, directors, managers, and designers in Ottawa.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of musical theatre, both on- and off-stage. The program culminates in a youth-created, directed, and performed evening of musical theatre at Britannia United Church.

This camp prepares you to put your skills into action. If you find your passion in costume design, why not stick around to volunteer and mentor the Youth Production?

Sample Day

A sample day may look like this:

  • 9:30am Arrive at Britannia United Church and prepare for the day
  • 9:45 am The workshop begins! Today we are welcoming Kraig-Paul Proulx, the Artistic Director of Suzart to explore how to do a great audition
  • 10:45am A short break
  • 11:00am We practice auditioning with Kraig-Paul, giving each other feedback on our technique
  • 12:00pm Community lunch on site, with some lazing in the grass to follow
  • 12:45pm Break-out groups to brainstorm our upcoming performance.
  • 2:00pm Reconvene the group to map-out the performance
  • 3:00pm Another short break
  • 3:15pm Let the planning begin! We assign roles, pick jobs, and figure out how to make our dreams a reality (you'll seeeeee)
  • 4:30pm Wrap-up the day to head home and dream about the theatre

Junior Theatre Workshop

For youth ages 7-14

July 23 – August 25th, 2018

Cityview Curling Club

Performance week August 19 – 25 at Britannia United Church

$650 for five weeks (instalment payments available)

This five-week program is an intensive, perofrmance-based program. Children will learn everything from audition techniques to the final bow as they work together on a beautiful production: Mary Poppins Jr.  Rehearsals for this portion of the camp will be held at City View Curling Club, with before and after care available (8am to 6pm).

The final production will be performed at Britannia United Church.

Sample Day

A sample day may look like this:

8:30am Arrive at City View Curling Club for before care with your friends

9:00am The program kicks off! We start the day with an energizer and focus the day.

9:30am Our camp coordinator is starting a session on the basics of performer etiquette. Stage right? House left?

10:15 Snack break

10:30am Put our work into action as we head outside for some fresh air, while practicing our new skills

12:00pm Lunch time! Unpack your WB and JB* sandwich

12:45pm Rehearsal begins – time to nail those harmonies

1:45pm No time like the present to figure out how to make Mary fly on stage!

2:30pm Break and outdoor energizer

3:00pm Back to lines, with some blocking peppered in for good measure

4:15pm Come together as a group and wrap-up the day

5:00pm Pick-up time

The staff are ready to have you join us and blow the minds of future audience members for Mary Poppins Jr.!
