Auditions for Company Membership in Suzart
Auditions are held annually over the Labour Day weekend. Those new to Suzart must audition to become members of the company on the Saturday of Labour Day weekend. This is the only time during the year that we hold auditions for the company. You will be asked to sing either O'Canada or Happy Birthday, learn a group dance and perform a short reading of the panel's choosing.
You will be notified by telephone within a week if you have been accepted into the company. If the directors of the current season would like to see you for a specific role, you will be asked to return for callbacks to be held on the Sunday of Labour Day weekend. Please clear your schedule for the entire weekend as there will be no other time given to callbacks.
Please note that Suzart is a not-for-profit co-operative family theatre. ALL members and/or their families are required to volunteer in various capacities throughout the year. You will be given a contract and a volunteer sign-up sheet at the orientation meeting, one half hour prior to the first rehearsal. For members under the age of 18, a parent must be present at the orientation meeting with their child and all forms need to be filled out and returned at that time. These forms will be available on the website (www.suzart.ca/auditions) in advance of the orientation meeting so that you may fill them out before you attend the meeting. Remember to bring your health card and calendars with you as you will be asked to provide medical information as well as any scheduling conflicts.
To book an audition, please call (613) 828-3500 or send an email to contact@suzart.ca. Auditions are by appointment only and are held at Woodroffe United Church (207 Woodroffe Avenue between Carling and Byron).
Please note that the annual membership fee is $30 per member. You must pay your membership fee yearly in order to remain an active member. For each show, there will also be a $20 script fee that must be paid when you receive your script. These fees are essential in order to cover administrative costs. Acceptance into the company is not a guarantee that you will be in every show. You will be required to re-audition if you do not keep your membership active.
Rehearsals generally take place every Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Woodroffe United Church. Because we rehearse, for the most part, on Sundays only, attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory. Arrangements may be made if you must miss a rehearsal provided you have given sufficient advance notice. All absences from rehearsals must be approved by the director and/or stage manager.
